✂️ Winter Grooming Tip #4:
When walks are fewer, nails grow longer!
During winter, we often cut back on outdoor time. The shorter days, cold mornings, and wet weather mean fewer walks on pavements and hard surfaces — and that’s where dogs would naturally wear down their nails.
But when those nails are left unchecked, they can quickly become:
-
Overgrown, making walking uncomfortable or even painful
-
Prone to splitting or cracking, especially in dry winter air
-
A risk to your floors and furniture
-
A cause of posture and joint strain if they change how your dog walks
✋ Why Regular Nail Trims Matter in Winter
Long nails can force your dog’s toes into unnatural positions, putting pressure on joints and making them more prone to slipping, especially on smooth, indoor surfaces.
In winter, when dogs are already less active, overgrown nails can further discourage movement, adding to stiffness and discomfort.
π How Often Should You Trim?
π Ideally, check your dog’s nails every 2-4 weeks in winter.
π If you hear them clicking on the floor, they’re too long!
π Regular trims help maintain healthy foot structure and comfort.
